Memories over Memorial Day

Saturday morning we headed downtown for the Memorial Day Parade.  Not the most kid-friendly parade we've been to but the kids both got to see things that interested them...princesses...

And to end on a sweet note, we headed out a little early and grabbed lunch at the Grecian Garden at the City Market. 

 

 

We'd had Papa visiting at our house since Thursday evening and when we got back to our house on Saturday, Parker and Bailey were over for a visit.  They LOVE to get dirty!

 

 

Now that we're finally getting our garage organized and de-cluttered, our big-people bikes are easier to access.

 

Phoebes had been asking to get her haircut so we squeezed one in on Sunday afternoon while most people in Indianapolis were at the track or at home watching the race.

 

Maverick entertained himself with the slide while Phoebe got bobbed.

 

How is it that my five-year-old gets messier eating a fudge pop than her four-year-old cousin!?

 

Maverick has just discovered popsicles.  I've been questioning his bloodline for awhile now as he doesn't care for ice cream or potatoes of any kind (seriously, whose kid is this!?) - but maybe that'll change as he gets older...

Monday, we headed to the hardware store like the other bazillion people in our city.  While pricing out plants and mulch, Phoebe discovered a little baby bird (remember her recent fetish with birds!?) and she walked right up to it and scooped him up.  We quickly urged her to put him back down and he hopped away.  They both wanted to make sure he was ok...

 

My hero!  He's made our front yard look AMAZING!

 

While Daddy was hard at work digging and mulching, the kids entertained themselves in his truck.  He was actually rear-ended the Monday before by an older lady (whom the police believe was on drugs at the time of the incident).  Luckily, the damage was minimal (a mere $4200) and everyone was able to walk away unscathed.  Truly, we're just grateful no one was hurt AND she was insured!  She was actually being followed by another driver who was on the phone with 911 when she ran into Ryan at the stoplight. 

 

 

 

 

For the life of me, I can't get this picture to appear normal but it still shows that Phoebe lost her second tooth on Memorial Day and got another $2 from TootheeTina...

Wednesday night was our last no-rain day in the week's forecast so while Ryan mowed the lawn, I took the kids to the neighborhood pool that had just opened the weekend before.

 

 

 

We were only there 45 minutes and they never ventured from the kiddie pool but they had a blast in the water.  Luckily it's heated so a lovely time was had by all!

 

No doubt about it, our kids LOVE the water!

 

Last week, Phoebe's class participated in Lemonade Day and they opened up for business! It was by far the best $20 lemonade I'd ever tasted!

 

Even Maverick's class came out to participate in the festivities!

 



Saturday, Phoebe had her final KinderDance recital and Uncle Steve and Bevin came down early to watch her perform.

 

She was SO excited he was there!

Sunday, we celebrated a belated Mother's Day and an early Papou's birthday!

 

It was a gorgeous weekend to be outside!

Maverick needed some warm-weather pjs so Phoebe got a new nightgown as well.  She loves it!  In fact, she's been wearing a pull-up to bed since we apparently bought the economy sized box way back when.  She's not ever had an accident but neither Ryan or I are fans of waking up in the middle of the night if we don't have to so we've been playing it safe.  She didn't like the way her new nightgown sounded against her pull-up so we've been pull-up free since the weekend!  Woooohooo!

Monday at almost 5:00 I got a call from Maverick's teacher that he'd had three episodes of diarrhea and that I'd need to keep him home till he was episode-free for 24 hours.  I tried to explain that he'd eaten bowlfuls of blueberries on Sunday but they wanted to play it safe, which I respect.  Luckily, it turned out to be gorgeous on Tuesday so we made the most of it by being outside!

 

Phoebe is obsessed with catching birds.  She has yet to catch one (imagine that) but that doesn't keep her from trying.

We ran a couple of errands since we seemed to be on the mend in the diaper department and while out and about, stopped at another park.

But he still gravitates towards the slides. 

Ever since Tuesday he's been asking about wagons, trails and "BIG" slides and being outside every chance we get.  SO excited we have a long weekend to enjoy together as a family!
