Maverick insisted that he was ready to play soccer, just like his big sister. We weren't quite sure what to expect since typically, when people think of our family, they don't tend to think "athletic." This little spitfire scored 10 goals his first game (which was without a practice due to rain earlier in the week).
Phoebe's game later that morning was rained out altogether. Which worked out well as we were able to head to a birthday party which was, thankfully, indoors.
The kids were able to burn lots of energy while celebrating our dear life group friend, Sam.
The next weekend proved to be a bit better. Still cloudy with some sprinkles, but not a torrential downpour.
We also arrived early for team pictures.
Since it was Mother's Day weekend and we'd be spending Sunday afternoon at YiaYia and Papou's to celebrate my amazing mom, we headed to a nearby county park to do some hiking after soccer. Maverick was trying to locate as many red-winged blackbirds as he could with his binoculars.
Phoebe was more interested in doing all the Mother's Day crafts they offered with pressed flowers and LOTS of glitter. Maverick did manage to sit still long enough to make one for me.
The weather didn't really cooperate but we walked far enough to make it to the river and skip some rocks before the rain started to near.
Sunday, after church, we headed to YiaYia and Papou's. Papou had a treat for the kiddos - potato guns! They had a blast with them and were entertained for hours!
I am so very blessed to be a MOM. I may not always be good at it but every day I'm thankful for the opportunity to watch these two grow and learn and develop. They light up my world.
The following week we got some bad news and then a few days later, got some devastating news. Uncle Steve was diagnosed with colon cancer and found out the following Monday that it was in his lungs and liver. We are scared and mad but are above all else, hopeful in the Great Physician, who will be with Steve every step of the way. He's young, strong, and otherwise healthy. He has a bazillion friends and family who love him and are praying for him and he knows Jesus. We are anxious to get the next two months over and done with and anticipate that the chemo will be effective. Ah we love you SO much, Uncle Steve. You're going to beat this!!!
We've decided to not give the kids too much information about Uncle Steve at this time. We manage to stay busy with soccer and legos as we wrap up the school year.
I'm thankful for them and how they keep us on our toes. What a bunch of goofballs!
