Friday morning Ryan took my car to get a much-needed oil change so Phoebe and I decided to try our hands at Gingerbread House decorating. Let's say we'll keep our day jobs! Royal icing is definitely NOT my friend and Phoebe's mantra was, "One for me, one for the house...one for me, one for the house..."
I think all my delusions with holiday baking and decorating have been laid to rest. I about sent Paula Deen a nasty letter earlier in the week when we attempted to make checkerboard cookies and at 10:30 at night, I realized I still had to cut and freeze the dough two more times! The packaging for this house has all these pretty lines in frosting which were beyond impossible with the size hole I cut in the frosting packet. But we had fun and Phoebe is VERY proud of the finished product. Note, the gumballs lining the rooftop fell in just seconds after the picture was snapped!
After we'd exhausted all our candy options, we headed upstairs to organize Phoebe's room. While I cleaned out clothes from her closet that she can't wear anymore, she insisted on wearing this summer hat (that she would NEVER wear with the matching dress!) and read Corduroy probably 10 times.
Friday afternoon, we headed to her school to celebrate Christmas with pizza, cupcakes and a gift exchange. It was a bit tight with all the parents and their cameras...we're way over in the far corner but Ryan had a nice spot by the door to take pictures.
Saturday afternoon we headed to YiaYia and Papou's to celebrate Christmas early. Uncle Steve and Auntie Kate were there to join in the fun. Phoebe had a great time helping everyone open their presents.
She got a little jewelry box with a ballerina which she loves but isn't quite sure about using for jewelry quite yet.
Magnetic dress-up dolls are fun to accessorize!
We learned on Thursday that sweatshirts or sweaters with hoods are VERY big at her table at school. YiaYia and Papou found this one and as soon as it was opened, on it went!
Future model?! Here's her "I'm too good for the camera" shot.
Auntie Kate read her "Tickle Monster" and Phoebe mimicked the faces. She's quite ticklish these days!
And because we'd gotten so much snow the past week, Ryan was determined to get her outside in it. So...we bundled her up and out they went!
Found it was easier to pull her on the plowed roads in the neighborhood where it was nice and packed.
She had a blast!
And CoCo escaped their house for a romp through Papou's undisturbed front yard!
So cute and snuggly, this one!
After dinner, Uncle Steve put on the Muppets' Christmas Carol (an old Rousopoulos favorite growing up).
Some parts were probably a bit scary for a two-year old! Good thing Uncle Steve was there to give hugs!
Then it was time to snuggle with Auntie.
And get in some more tickles.
And here we are stuffed and happy on the couch!
While Ryan packed up our gifts, YiaYia played "Tomorrow" on the piano while Phoebe did "work" on her new magnadoodle. In fact, she had to do "work" the entire way home and demanded to have a light on so she could see. I thought for sure after no nap that she'd fall asleep on the way home. No such luck.
Tonight, Granddaddy came for a visit on his way down to Princeton. He brought his kitty, Finigan.
CoCo and Fini became fast friends, believe it or not.
This picture absolutely cracks me up. She's sitting just like him!
Phoebe did NOT want to let go of the cat! I think he'd have preferred otherwise!
Nor did she want to go to bed but Granddaddy sang her favorite Christmas books, Frosty the Snowman and Silent Night. She was upstairs and asleep before 9 so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
We got about three inches of snow in the time he was here and after about 20 minutes after he left, he showed back up on our doorstep declaring the roads unfit. Luckily, we have a comfy couch with his name on it and Phoebe will be delighted to see him when she wakes up.
