Just going through the pictures of our vacation has made me exhausted! We packed SO much into our time away and the kiddos (and the parents) had a great time! After we got up Tuesday morning, we made the short trek over to St. Louis and our first stop was the St. Louis Zoo. It was huge and oh-so-hot!
We were so excited to see their hippos since Indy doesn't have any!
We spent a LOT of time in the bug exhibit as it was indoors and air conditioned!
Phoebe loved the butterfly exhibit and was hoping one or two would land on her!
This was as close as she got but she was still pretty excited.
Maverick was a stellar tour guide and loved his map.
The giraffes preferred to be inside - this picture does not do justice to the enormity of these creatures. They were so very large.
After a few hours at the zoo, we headed to the Hill for some authentic Italian cuisine. Unfortunately for us, we didn't pick a super kid-friendly establishment and with the kids being hot and tired, it was a rush to eat and get out before causing a meatball-flying fiasco! We survived and left stuffed and headed to a nature preserve that was four miles from our hotel. We were thrilled to see elk and buffalo so close up!
Phoebe was NOT a fan of driving with our windows down and was fearful the elk would get her.
That all changed when she heard us talking about a raccoon!
Even Maverick got excited!
Wednesday morning we headed to Grant's Farm and saw the Clydesdale horses.
It was almost like a repeat of the zoo with all the animals they had for us to see. The kids loved feeding the goats their bottles!
It was another hot day so we stopped when the kids begged for snow cones. Two bites in, Maverick decided he didn't like his so he got a big bouncy balloon that managed to survive the trip until we got home.
After Grant's Farm, we headed downtown to City Museum. I tell you no lie, it was a parents-of-young-children nightmare. So many tunnels and nooks and crannies to get lost in and OH-SO-CROWDED and dirty. But you ask the kids and they will tell you they loved it!
They took all these old, historical artifacts from the city of St. Louis and made them into interactive pieces and displays. It was a super cool concept and would have been great for kids in the double digit age group! If you notice the objects to the right of this picture - those are slides ranging from 5 to 10 stories high!
Maverick's favorite part of the museum was the huge outdoor ball pit.
Luckily there was a section for ages six and under!
After we got them out of the ball pit, Ryan climbed up with them to check out the airplanes. If you look hard, you can see them on the walkway.
I walked over to a stone tower to try and get some shots of where they were. Note the bus on top of the building? We didn't pay the extra "rooftop experience" fee because this mama just isn't that brave.
There truly are no words to describe the museum - it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. And the pictures don't do it justice either!
After the museum, we headed to see the Arch.
Ryan tried out the simulator pod and decided he wasn't a fan so we skipped the ride to the top.
Burning our remaining energy as we head back to our hotel.
