St. Louis Fun - Part Two

Thursday morning we woke up to torrential rains and figured we should probably spend the day inside!  First on our list was the Donut Drive-In!  Phoebe was in donut heaven and had a hard time picking which donuts she loved best.

We then headed to the Magic House, St. Louis' Children's Museum (along with half of the city, I believe!).

It was a children's paradise and there was SO much to do!  A lot of similarities to the one in Indy but much more compact!  There were a LOT of pulley systems through the museum's three floors!

This fake kitchen even had running water in the sink...bad idea, Magic House...bad idea.  Water was everywhere and the kids loved it!

I think every Children's Museum has a mandatory clause to include one of these contraptions these days.

They had an entire section devoted to learning about the different houses of government.  Our kids thought it was just cool to be on stage and have working microphones!

They also had a house that was mid-construction.  Maverick played with the tools.

Phoebe laid some laminate flooring!

Outside the house, Maverick was thrilled with the excavators and concrete mixers.

Phoebe busied herself on the second level.

They had their own BUBBLE ROOM.  The floors were a mess but a highlight for sure!

And what museum doesn't have water play?

Or gigantic lite brites?

Phoebe spent a lot of time in the vet's office!

While Maverick could have stayed in the grocery store the rest of the afternoon!  There were a few of us moms that kept reorganizing the shelves and putting produce back where it belonged but it was definitely a losing battle!

We finally caught back up with Phoebe in the pizza parlor!

We also did a little fishing.

And automotive repair.

We opted for a late lunch at Fitz's and there was still a wait!  Luckily the rain slowed down since we were out the door. St. Louis was celebrating its' 250th birthday and there were large, random cakes strewn throughout the city.

Phoebe chillin' with Chuck Berry.

And cheering!

Luckily, they were still bottling root beer when we got inside!

And no Wallis' Vacation would be complete without a stop at Cabela's!

On our way back to the hotel, we made another stop at the Lone Elk Reserve to check out the animals.

Phoebe puked in bed Thursday night (Maverick totally slept through it all) and we're guessing she got a little TOO excited about seeing the family of raccoons at the reserve and jumped all over the back of the van (yes, we let them get unbuckled and roam around while we drove through the park, we're bad parents).  She still gets the pukes when she's too active right after she eats.  We're working on it.

On Friday we went to the Butterfly House.  These butterflies were huge.  And gorgeous.

It was extremely hot and humid inside the dome so Maverick and Ryan opted to stay in the air-conditioned portion of the museum while Phoebe and I anxiously awaited a butterfly landing.

Burning a little energy before getting back in the van.

We also rode on a carousel from the early 1900's (you know, since we're such big, historical buffs!).

We'd been told to stop at Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate! for a tour so we made sure to get that penciled in on our itinerary.

The tour was short and we got to sample a truffle or caramel, so all was right with the world.

And our last stop before heading home to Indiana - to pick up some gooey butter cakes!

It wasn't long into our return trip that Maverick was like this...

And Phoebes was snuggled up watching a movie.

We had a fabulous time.  Got home around 9:00 (which was 8:00 CST which we'd been on all week) and spent the next few days doing laundry!  Now the countdown to first grade could begin!
