They started a new series at church called "I love my church!" and everyone got a t-shirt because "t-shirts start conversations" so we've been sporting them around town to do our part! Mostly, conversations have been with other church goers but I believe God can use even a child's t-shirt to stir the soul.
We wrapped up the last week of summer camp with a week cheering. I sometimes wonder if we should have attempted gymnastics as the kid loves to do cartwheels and handstands like they're going out of style! However, we're a one-sport-at-a-time family so we're sticking with JUST soccer this fall! Either way, she cheered her little heart out!

Saturday morning, we headed to Lake Michigan since the kids have never experienced a beach. Our first stop was to the Indiana Dunes, along with what felt like half the state. It was packed but that didn't stop us from having a good time!

The next day we stopped in New Buffalo in the morning to just walk along the shore. It was a very rocky beach and it sprinkled a bit but that didn't stop us from having fun.

We then headed to St. Joe and checked out their downtown for lunch. Miss Phoebe is completely oblivious to the hair that constantly falls in her face. On the other hand, it drives me bonkers! Not too much slows her down though!
After lunch, we hit Silver Beach and had a blast.

We've decided we need more pictures of us so you'll see more selfies in the future. Oh I love this man so.
The last day, we stopped by Warren Dunes in Sawyer and had the beach almost to ourselves most of the morning. That's Ryan's head way out there in the water.
The only downside to a beach on a lake is that shells are few and far between. That didn't stop us from looking. AND we brought home a bucket of rocks instead!
I've decided I'm not a fan of sand, either. It's fun and all but it sure makes a mess! I think we have about a pound or so on our laundry room floor! These smiles - they make the entire mess worth it!
We got home Monday evening in time for Back-to-School night to meet the teachers. Tuesday we headed to the Indiana State Fair!

Wednesday was our last "free" day before school began so I took the kids to the zoo.
It was the first time we saw the orangutans outside and up high - pretty amazing creatures!
We cooled off by going to the dolphin show and took it up a notch by sitting in the "splash zone!"
We ran into quite a few of Phoebe's friends who must have had the same idea we did! She went on the roller coaster twice with this guy!

We ended our visit in the Butterfly Garden.
Thursday morning we were ready for school to begin! So proud of our 2nd grader!
Maverick also started pre-k on Thursday at Phoebe's elementary school. He thinks he's pretty hot stuff being at the big kids' school!

We survived the short week (praise the Lord!) and celebrated with a bike ride Saturday morning to the Carmel Farmer's Market. Where there's grass...there will be cartwheels!

We spent the afternoon downtown. We'd gotten tickets from the State Fair to check this place out so we stopped by. It wasn't a place that was intended for kids so we were in and out in less than an hour. At least now we know!

Then we stopped by the P&G Gymnastics Championship event while we waited for a table at (where else!?) the Old Spaghetti Factory.
We even got to eat in the caboose, which made this one extra happy!
Then we headed to the Indians game to see the Famous Chicken!
None of us were very interested in the game but that didn't stop Phoebe from crying when we left after the 5th inning!
So very grateful for our little family! And for a fun city that keeps us entertained!
