Busy busy busy!

We had another full weekend that left us (almost) ready for Monday! We started the weekend with a package from Nana - a new stool! Phoebe had discovered the stool Mom made for me when I turned one. Not sure it's as safe now as it was back then...so we were in the market for a new stool and Nana had this one on hand. Phoebe loves it, picks it up and carries it around. She is SO full of adventure!
Friday we took our weekly walk with Amanda but it was so darn hot, we called it quits early and instead of heading to the zoo with Auntie Kate, we opted for the Children's Museum instead. AND we're now proud members, much to Ryan's chagrin! It's amazing how much comes back to you from your own childhood once you get there.

We came the day before the King Tut exhibit opened so we'll have to go back and take Daddy. We were there less than 3 hours and it about did our little girl in.

Saturday we got up and headed to YiaYia and Papou's to redeem a "Work Day" that we'd given for Mother's Day. Auntie Kate and Uncle Steve were there too - it was a long, hot day and I didn't even get pictures of the finished product, but the back and front yards both look lovely and if we never see mulch again, it'll be too soon! Phoebe, on the other hand, would be content to have a work day every weekend! She got to play in the pool, play in the mud, hang out with YiaYia and eat whatever Papou put on the grill. Now that's a day that's hard to beat!

We ended the day belatedly celebrating Father's Day for my dad. Phoebe stole the show by getting on the table and proceeding to mimick everything Uncle Steve did. Sunday we went stroller shopping after church. It's amazing how you think you need a stroller for every kind of occasion. We opted for a nice umbrella stroller that should see her through the next 25 lbs. so next on our list will be the car seat. Unfortunately, that's a much more expensive purchase! And we're watching our $$ these days. The blood work came back for Pita and they insist on doing a joint tap procedure before going any further with ANY medication. Unfortunately, the next procedure costs $700 and there aren't any guarantees that this procedure will lead the doctors to a better conclusion of what's ailing little Pita. We are so conflicted on where to go from here. At what point do you stop investing into your pet? Any wisdom from our fellow dog lovers would be much appreciated!

Well, I'm off to go spend some quiet time with my husband before we call it a day - I just wanted to get up the photos from the weekend. We're not sure what to do for the long weekend, but we're excited for it all the same!

Bella wanted to look at pictures...so I'm glad there were new ones up! She's getting so big...it goes fast! Ready for #2?

We had it easy when the vet told us it would be $5000 for the first day with a 50% chance and then $3000 after that at the minimum. That made our decision for us, but it was horrible to go through and don't wish it on anyone (doesn't help when it's two weeks after having a baby). I do miss both of ours, but Cosmo being 13 was a little easier knowing he had a full life. Sorry you're going through this.

We still grieve for Ripley who was 14 when we had to put her down to to cancer. It cost hundreds just to put her down. Right before that, when we still thought we had options, it was agonizing to consider spending thousands with an oncologist and her having to lose part of her beautiful face to treat the cancer...we actually had an appointment with the cancer doc when merciful God moved and the cancer progressed so quickly that there weren't options anymore. my advice is this...what's her quality of life if you proceed with treatment. Will she be so much better and return to doggy life as normal or will it prolong suffering and a low quality of life for her? If she's just going to continue to need treatment after treatment and not be able to run and play and sniff and chase...what kind of dog life is that? Putting Ripley down was so hard but it ended her suffering so that part was easy. Sometimes I think it would be good if people could choose a way out of illness and disease...hmmmnnn...praying for you...

On the brightside, Phoebe is GORGEOUS! So fun!

We've been down this road with the cats... once we paid the money (and it didn't work) and the other time we didn't (I'm sure you remember in the infamous kitty hospice episode of 2006). You're in a harder position than we were, though, because you just don't have a prognosis. At least with Katie, we knew she only had a maximum of a year or two left even if we did treat her.

I would encourage you to be honest with the vet about the financial situation. I think sometimes they forget that there isn't insurance for this stuff and just start recommending things without thinking about the cost... and I think it's a little ridiculous that they would not even allow you to try any meds or anything without doing the $700 test! Unless they can say that the meds might harm her (depending on the outcome of the test), what's the problem? And, if the vet won't bend on it and you can't spend the money, I'd get a second opinion. I've always appreciated that my vet understood that we couldn't spend that much money on the cats and he usually gave us options at different prices of what we could do. Hopefully someone will do that for you, too.

Good luck! I know how awful it is to go through this... I've spent MANY moments crying in the vet's office in the past few years. It just stinks.
