April Birthdays

Last Saturday morning, Phoebe woke up to a house full of Nana, Papa and cousin Lucas! Papa made his customary run to Long's for donuts so he was greeted by Phoebe with a smile!

After breakfast, it was time to get down to business as we had a party to get ready for! And just to set the record straight, all I did to get this cake done was purchase the Elmo pan on craigslist for $5 (what a deal!) and buy extra red coloring paste when we ran out - Ryan baked the cake and Nana decorated it. What a great team effort! You'll also note here the pacifier in Phoebe's mouth. She affectionately calls it her "wa-wa" (don't ask) and we're determined to end its existence in the near future. Most often, it's something she gets at naptime but if she sees it in the middle of the day, she makes life pretty miserable till she gets it!

Here's a picture of the birthday girl as the party gets under way. She is NOT a fan of extra attention so it made things interesting since everyone was there for her!

She had a blast with cousin Lucas!

Great-Grandma Newell picked out fun cooking/baking utensils, complete with a Phoebe-sized apron and chocolate muffin mix. We can only hope that we'll be as good in the kitchen as G-gma!

Nana snuck in some Elmo big girl panties as part of Phoebe's gift - while I was at a dinner this week, Ryan says she was adamant about wearing them (without a diaper on) and running around the house. No accidents were had so that's a good thing. In the meantime, we're still very much in diapers and not all that interested in potty training yet.

This is pretty much what people saw - Phoebe would want to open each gift and play with it as soon as it was out. From foam blocks, to clothes, to babies and strollers to her new sit-n-spin - it was an extravaganza of gifts and she loved it!

Here's the final cake - I guess we should be thankful she's not into something more colorful - from what I understand it was fairly easy with only a few colors. A friend at MOPS - her son wanted a quarry for a birthday cake (a quarry!) - the things people do for kids' birthdays!

However, when it came time to sing the Birthday Song, Phoebe brought on the tears. Here she is pleading not to even put the hat on my head.

And this was her position the duration of the song. Oh well - maybe next year. At least she ate some cake!

After cake, she played with the balloons - who knew entertainment could be so cheap for a two-year old!? It helped that cousin Lucas and Uncle Steve were there to make it even more fun!

Here she is with a mouth full of ice - she's a chomper, just like her Auntie Kate!

After everyone left, Nana and Phoebe got the balloons off the mailbox and then proceeded to blow every remaining dandelion in sight.

Phoebe took her hula hoop and headed outdoors to get some quality time with Lucas. She loved it when he picked her up and put her in the tree. He's going to become a big brother this month and we're so excited to meet our new niece! Lucas is going to be a great big brother!

Sunday morning came all too quickly - Phoebe does NOT like good byes but she DOES love her Nana, Papa and Lucas!

After church, we headed to YiaYia and Papou's to celebrate a belated birthday with Auntie Kate. She turned the big 2-5 Easter Sunday but was on duty and had to stay in PA. I think Phoebe was just excited that there were strawberries and cake - but she had a good time with her Auntie.

See? Here's my spoon - let's get this party started!

Here she is showing how a lady should eat her dessert.

Who are we kidding? Phoebe's got a sweet tooth - of that we have NO doubt - two spoons required!

This Friday, we had her two year check up. She weighed in at 25.4 lbs (30th percentile) and measured 35 1/2 inches (90th percentile). She's a pretty healthy kid but she gets to stay on whole milk for another year - Papou would say she's a lucky girl! They did tell us she had an ear infection (again) but it should go away on its own so we're just on ibuprofen and she's doing great.
Thanks to everyone who made Phoebe's birthday so special! We love you all!
