Rollin' at the Indiana State Fair

It's that time of year again and it cooled off just this week so we could enjoy a few visits to the State Fair.  We took advantage of the free tickets and went Thursday night.  After spending over 90 minutes sitting in traffic, I'm not sure we'll ever do it again.  Phoebe didn't get tucked into bed until almost 11:00 that night but she had fun despite the after bedtime hours. 

This calf was less than 12 hours old (and 80 lbs.)!

We made our necessary visit to the Dairy Barn.  By far, the best deal at the Fair - grilled cheese, apple slices, silly straw and milk - all for $4.00!

Then we spent $2.00 on carrots so Phoebe could feed goats in the dark. Definitely a worthwhile investment!

We ended the night with a pineapple whip and made it home in under 20 minutes!

And in true Wallis fashion, we headed BACK to the Fair Saturday since we missed most of the fun, kid-friendly activities as they were already closed on Thursday!

It's hard to believe this is Phoebe's fourth year at the Fair!  She's becoming a pro at picking eggs, milking cows, riding tractors, shearing sheep, etc.

The one thing Phoebe wanted to see were donkeys (don't ask, we're just as stumped as you are) but they were clearing out the horses on Saturday and no mules were to be found.  Luckily we did see a miniature donkey when feeding the goats earlier in the week. 

This picture was taken in transition - Maverick went into the baby carrier - after he woke up and got fed and Miss Phoebe got to ride in the stroller.

We stopped in the agricultural center and after answering a bunch of questions about soybeans, Phoebe got to decorate a hat.  Here she's showing off her letter writing skills.

And although it's much cooler than it's been this summer, we were roasting by the time we left early afternoon!

And if you'll remember in years past, most of our time was spent at the fountains.  We had to at least stop by for a quick cool down before leaving.

Oh, and the reason for the "Rollin'" in the title - our little guy rolled from back to tummy for the first time tonight - he's getting SO big.  And speaking of big, our big girl is sitting next to me as I type at 10:45 p.m. because she's simply "not tired."  Here's hoping we all get some sleep tonight!
